Discovered by the Spanish in the fourth trip of Christopher Columbus to America, Panama is a country that represented and was established such as a key point of the international trade, since the legendary Fairs of Portobelo, to our days with each maritime crossing through the Canal. For this reason its economy focused in the service sector, has paved the foundation of an unique and prosperous future for this central American nation.

The definition of Panama as word has direct relation with the concept abundance. Abundance of fish, trees and birds have determined since before the colony the meaning of this country. Also it has been said that Panama comes from a word kuna: “Bannaba” and that was used by the natives to confuse the conquerors in search of gold.

Panama in its goal to become a Republic, had to be ruled, since 1502 when was discovered by Cristopher Columbus in its fourth trip to America, by the plans of the Spanish crown. After three centuries being a colony and acquiring for the world a privileged commercial position, Panama became independent in 1921. Thereafter panama joined the projects of the Great Colombia, continuing the dreams of Simón Bolivar of a single America, but nevertheless the Panamanians wich had always desires of freedom, initiated movements as the Federals State, That  although certain independence offered it like a Colombian department, maintained them in an economic slope that the isthmus had never experienced before. It is so when the Constructions and studies for the Constructions of the Canal Started, Panama decided finally in 1903, to separate from Colombia and to move towards a Republican life.
